Our lives have been turned upside down – routine out the window, not being able to go to the skate park, playgrounds or beaches to play. Being inside our homes for the majority of the day has naturally lead to an increase in screen time for everyone as we try fill up our days with no school, work, sports and activities.
I was finding that the boys were nagging all day for screen time come week two of being at home and their behaviours weren’t deserving of it. I created these trackers to help them learn about earning their screen time and not just expecting it.
The way the chart works is that each screen represents 5 mins of screen time. They have the opportunity to EARN 35 minutes of screen time a day for the following day. They can also choose to save it and stock pile it for a lengthier session if they wish.
They also can LOSE their screen time in the same manner. Each red screen is 5 Minutes LOST for the following day. if they lose all 3 red screens there is NO screen time for the following day regardless of what they have already earnt. The same goes for if they do one of the red screens more than once. That also results in zero screen time for the following day.
Here is hoping that all jobs get done without me asking and that there is less nagging and overall better behaved children during these uncertain times that have thrown their wee worlds upside down.
