KYLANS SURFING PARTY PREP

With my discovery of instagram and all the amazing small local shops online this years party planning was made that much easier!

I worked with the lovely Nic from @mercandjones, a busy mumma of 2 in Melbourne who helped me make the cake the amazing creation that it turned out to be. I had planned on doing a simpler cake this year with a stand out cake topper. If you look back on my previous blog posts of the boys birthdays I always went all out with a ginormous fondant creation of a cake.

Whilst Kylan had enjoyed these creations over the years, when he asked for a surfing party this year I didn’t want to do a surfboard cake and my past experience with making human figurines was disasterous – so a surfing man was out of the question!

I decided to go simple, stand out and delicious which was a little it more grown up than his previous ones.

I contacted Merc and Jones and told her what I was thinking and she took my ideas and made it a reality and I was so happy with how they turned out!! I always struggle to communicate what exactly I am envisioning – I am such a visual person but she understood exactly what I wanted and I couldn’t be happier! I wanted them to tie into the colour scheme of natural wood tones, blue and white with a subtle hint to the surfing theme. The surfboards were actually a bit of a last thought but they were definitely the perfect finishing touches!

So the cake was sorted but there were a few other things that I needed to help create the “surfing theme” and put the finishing touches to some of my ideas.

I reached out to another local business which I had found through the Instagram community, @vinti_parties. Keao was absolutely amazing to deal with and helped me so much with coming up with ideas.

Keaton created the little shark fins on spoons, little vinyl surfboards, thank you stickers and a big vinyl “Kylan” for his table display.

I bought these little brown boxes as the party favors and wanted something to go on them. @vinti_parties hit the ball out of the park with these! So super easy to do, they looked amazing p, and she had used the same font as the invitations so they tied in perfectly with the theme.

I got Kylan to write a wee note to go inside them and I had a small thank you gift to include as well.

Keao sent me these shark fins and spoons. They came with tape on the back all ready to attach to the spoons making it super easy for me to get ready for the party. Another simple idea but added to his theme and the kids loved them!

I had some leftover surfboards from the favors so I attached them to some cardboard, cut them out, taped them to a toothpick and they became the perfect wee cupcake toppers!

The last piece from vinti parties was the vinyl name for his party table backdrop. Again, it tied into the theme by using the same font as the favors and his invitations and was perfect. Unfortunately we had trouble with the wood we were using and it didn’t want to stick to it without the cover plastic, but even with that still on it still looked amazing!
