THE GRAND TOUR

So the whole point in starting this blog was to have a way of keeping track of the work which we have done around our first home. I did a great job of keeping track during the beginning stages and have some beautiful kids posts BUT I have done a pretty shitty job at doing regular posts and I have just realized that the last photos I have of the main living area of our home posted in my blog have very little reflection of how our home looks now. That last post was the ‘before and during’ photos of the initial renovation work done which was a drastic change but looking back it was still so unfinished.

So I thought it was time to do the grand tour. After all the hard boring parts were done the fun part was about to begin where I started to find my style and start turning this empty canvas into our home. It didn’t happen over night which is why this post has been so long in the making but over the past 2 years I have discovered my personal taste and preferences when it comes to home decor and I have learnt so much about styling and decorating and truley found a passion I didn’t know I had.

So enough chit chat….Here it is!!

Straight ahead I have our Noah and Bowie “you me us we” print which is a fave and always gets so many positive comments. On the right is my jimmy stand so playing my latest nick nacks. I love it as it’s an easy way to change things up and mix up the styling around the place without moving furniture around.

At the end of the entrance if you look left it takes you into our humble living quarters. We have an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining room with our new large doors which open up on what will one day be the most amazing outdoor entertaining area (watch this space this is next on my list).

Here is our wee lounge area which I change up by using different cushions, throws and mixing up the styling on the shelf and side table. We have decided for the time being to not have a coffee table as the boys spend so much time running around and using the rug area to play on so we have opted for more space.

I rearrange my prints from my favourite stores Alma Custom Designs, Toucan, One Tiny Tribe, Hazy Prints, among others and rotate my cushions including these gorgeous ones from Kmart, Farmers and The Artclub Concept to mix things up and create new looks.

Looking out from the lounge across into our kitchen and dining area areas and the current outdoor covered area which we haven’t started work on yet. The island bench seating in the kitchen is my favourite part. The boys sit and eat there every day and I can potter away in the kitchen whilst they eat their dinner.

We went with a ceiling high tiled herringbone splashback to keep the kitchen as seamless as possible but still making it a feature. This took over two years to get done after renovating the kitchen, it was the last thing that we did to complete the Reno and the bit that makes the most impact! It just finishes off the space. The disaster that was choosing and doing the splashback will be another blog post. Check back later for that one!!

Along with the splash back we also got our handles and tap wear which we put in during the Reno 2 years ago powder coated to put the finishing touches on our place and bringing all elements and features together to tie into each other!

In the far corner of the kitchen is my secret special wee nook! It hides all of those ugly yet necessary appliances that are used everyday so can’t be stashed away in the cupboards purely due to convenience and laziness.

 

Looking back out of the kitchen is our small dining space with the best piece of artwork in my whole house and a view of Mr Jimmy and what he has on display for the day. Yes that’s really us! No photoshop, just me and hubby having a moment off a reef in Fiji! (Check out my trash the dress post to see them all!)

Looking out from the kitchen back to the lounge too is our TV area and the kids table and chairs.

Our house is small. This next photo I took sitting on my couch, and you can see the other end of the house in the shot! We had tried to make it as roomy and spacious as possible by knocking out those pesky walls, making it open plan and making it as light and bright as possible with a minimalistic feel.

Looking down the hall I have our most loved family photos on display in a black and white gallery wall. I went with white frames and mats to keep it subtle and un-intrusive as the hallway is a narrow space and I did not want to overpower it with dark frames or coloured photos.

Looking back down the hall from the entrance to all of our bedrooms I have this cute wee bookshelf which I found at the op shop that fits the tiny space perfectly with some more nik naks and another view of our gallery wall.

At the end of the hall is the entrance to our bedrooms and the bathroom. In this space I have my gorgeous Me and My Trend round shelf with more goodies and my new fave Hazy Print’s print hanging proud being the first thing that we all see as we leave our bedrooms reminding us how to live our lives each day.

This post has been a long time coming that’s for sure…our home has been a work in progress for as long as I can remember but I’ve loved almost every minute of the process and don’t think it will ever be completely finished with nothing more to do!
