GENDER REVEAL CAKE

Being an absolute Pinterest addict I had come across so many neat ideas to reveal the gender of our baby. I had my 4 year old son announce our pregnancy to all our family and friends and I even filmed it and had it as our pregnancy announcement online so when it came time to announce the gender I also wanted to do something special.

We had organized a pot luck dinner with some of our close friends for the day we were having the 20 week scan. I decided I wanted to do a gender reveal CAKE!

Since I would be only finding out myself a few hours before my guests would be arriving doing a pink or blue cake was going to be too much to do in that time frame so I went with my trusty chocolate cake recipe and prepped the cake in advance and had that and some decadent chocolate ganache waiting until we knew what we were having. I also had a couple bags of MnMs and Skittles on standby.

So once we got the exciting news all I needed to do was dig out the reds and pinks or blues from the lollies and stuff them in a hole in my cake and smother it in ganache! VOILA! Isn’t it pretty?

This gorgeous chocolatey mound of goodness was sitting on the table with all my friends gathered around waiting with anticipation. It was such a special moment. Including all our friends here in NZ we even had our close friends who were living in Australia and Wales there too via Skype and Facetime!

So then all that was left to do was cut the cake…… Its a BOY!!!
