When we bought the house the kitchen and the bathroom were the worst parts of the house, they were disgusting to put it nicely- they were also the most expensive rooms to fix up. We had to choose which one to do first and the kitchen was number one on the list as we wanted open everything up as soon as possible and get the open plan living happening. If you missed the kitchen and lounge reno you can find it here!
We had to live with the disgusting bathroom while we saved up after the kitchen reno. It went from bad to worse as the old shower was leaking and the floor boards were rotting away. It felt like a waiting game before the floor would give way under us as it was that bad!!
We decided to do the reno over the Christmas holidays while we were all on leave. We had to move out for a week while there was no usable toilet – being 7 months pregnant this made helping out with the reno difficult as I had a little man using my bladder as a trampoline at the time!
The bathroom was tiny! The shower was hidden away behind the door in a dark little cubicle and somehow a bath was squished in there too with the vanity. There was a separate toilet which was a long narrow room. It seemed like such a waste of space as it was basically a hallway in the toilet!
So the plan was to knock down the wall between the bathroom and toilet and join them together to make one big room….But before we get into that here are our before photos of the bathroom and toilet. (these photos were taken when the previous owners were still living here, that bathroom decor is not mine!!!!!)
Carpet in the toilet?????? |
The photos really don’t do it justice as to how bad it really was….It felt great to get in there and rip it all out!!
When the bath came out it made for some great fun outside in the garden!
Gib went up, plastering was done and we were ready to hand over to the waterproofers and tilers to work their magic! That was when the true transformation took place. Then it was the installation of everything and we were set to go with a gorgeous new bathroom!
So are you ready to see the finished room? Check it out here!
