For my sister’s 21’st I had an idea in mind! She has always been well known for her…….assets. So I thought I would create a classy cake to suit her and her best features.
This cake was so much fun to make. The weather was also perfect for dealing with fondant so I didn’t have any issues with sticking or cracking.
To start off with I created a rectangle cake as my base. I also used two small cake tins to make two small cakes which would soon become the feature of this cake.
I took the crusty tops off the two smaller cakes and rounded them nicely and tried to make them as even as possible. I also added some curves to the rectangle cake and put them all together…..Do you see where I am going with this yet?
After icing it all up with butter cream and leaving it to set I rolled out my skin colour fondant and covered the top half of the cake with it and smoothed it all out. I then went to cover the rest of the cake with black fondant but after rolling it out I realised it looked a bit ‘flat’ I dug around and found a piece of plastic mesh which I put on top of my rolled fondant and rolled over it a few times.
This created a gorgeous even texture to the black fondant giving it an almost lacey appearance.
The texture on the fondant MADE this cake! without it I don’t think it would have been so WOW |
So it was all starting to come together nicely – and so far was looking to be one of my tidiest cakes to date! As they say practice makes perfect! It also helped that it was the end of August so not in the midst of the summer heat and humidity that I am usually battling with my cakes.
I rouged up a bit of black fondant and attached to the top of the bustier to look like lace and did the same to the bottom. This trim took it to another level….But it still looked unfinished. I pulled out the handy little silver balls to add a bit of sparkle to it and it looked great….but still not finished.
I took a risk and made some plaits with the fondant and decided to add it to the middle of the corset to look like boning. I was a bit worried it would look overdone.
IT LOOKED AMAZING!!!! I was over the moon with how it turned out!
