Kylan’s First Birthday Party
(back in February 2010)
My life truly began when my son was born back in 2009. Bringing with it lots of new learning curves and challenges as well as new experiences.
It was around the time of his first birthday that I started trawling the internet for inspiration for his first birthday party. There were so many extravagant gorgeously styled birthday images splashed across the internet and I was blown away with choice.
I was inspired to go with an ‘under the sea’ theme as it tied in with the colours that I love using together…..lime green and blue.
We didn’t go all out with decorations, just some coloured balloons and table clothes….after all he was only turning 1!
This is where I discovered a new passion and creative outlet…CAKES!
Gone are the days with a plain old cake with a bit of plain icing or buttercream if you are lucky smeared across the top!! Cakes today are works of art!
To go with my under the sea theme I went with an octopus…partly because it seemed like a relatively easy design to do for my first attempt! I loved creating it and learning about how to use fondant. Obviously it was my first attempt and there were a few errors along the way.
But this was the start of my cake creating ADDICTION!!!
